About Us

Welcome to the website of Coalville Heritage Society.

Coalville is situated in North West Leicestershire and is a relatively new town dating back only about 175 years. The discovery of rich coal seams in the area attracted several industrial entrepreneurs (including George and Robert Stephenson) to lay railways and sink mines. Because of these mines and the miners that worked the town of Coalville grew.

Coalville Heritage Society was formed by an amalgamation of the Coalville Historical Society and Coalville 150 Group in 2006.

From October to April each year a monthly general meeting is held at the Ebenezer Baptist Church coffee lounge on Ashby Road in Coalville, where each month a talk and/or presentation is given by a guest speaker. This scope of these talks is quite broad with history and heritage as an underlying theme. Meetings take place on the second Wednesday of the month starting at 7.30pm.
